This pattern uses US terms and continuous rounds except for the tail.

Head/Body

Using light blue yarn:
R1: MR, sc 6
R2: inc x 6 (12)
R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
R4: (sc 2, inc) x 6 (24)
R5-9: sc 24 (5 rounds)
R10: (sc 2, dec) x 6 (18)

R11: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
R12: sc 12 (12)
R13: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

R14: During this round, you will make wings on both sides of the body. If the stitch placement does not align them correctly, adjust as needed. Use a stitch marker to mark the back loop of each wing to make it easier to find later.
sc 4, [FLO: sc, ch, dc 2, ch, sc], sc 7, [FLO: sc, ch, dc 2, ch, sc], sc 5 (18)

R15: (sc 2, inc) x 6 (24). When you reach each wing, do not crochet on
the wing; only crochet on the back loop (the one with the stitch marker).
R16: (sc 3, inc) x 6 (30)
R17: (sc 4, inc) x 6 (36)
R18: sc 36 (36)

R19: During this round, you will make feet. They will be in the center front of the body. If the stitch placement does not align them correctly, adjust as needed.

  • sc 12
  • change to yellow yarn: BO
  • change to light blue yarn: sc 6
  • change to yellow yarn: BO
  • change to light blue yarn: sc 16 (36)

R20: (sc 4, dec) x 6 (30)
R21: (sc 3, dec) x 6 (24). Stuff.
R22: (sc 2, dec) x 6 (18)
R23: (sc, dec) x 6 (12).
Finish stuffing. Don’t overstuff the bottom so that it can remain flat.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Insert this yarn tail through the front loops of R23. Pull tight to close. Weave in any loose ends.

Tail

Start with green yarn:
R1: MR, sc 6, ch 1, turn (6)
R2: (sc, inc) x 3, ch 1, turn (9)
R3: sc, inc, (sc 2, inc) x 2, sc, ch 1, turn (12)
R4: (sc 3, inc) x 3, ch 1, turn (15)

Change to yellow yarn:
R4: (sc, chain 3, sk 2) x 2, sc, ch 2, sk 1, sc, (ch 3, sk 2, sc) x 2, ch 1, turn
R5: sc into the first stitch (sc 4 along R4’s chain, sc into the next stitch) x 5, ch 1, turn

Change to mint yarn:
R6: sc into the 1st stitch, (ch 6, sk 4 of R5’s stitches, sc into the next stitch) x 5, ch 1, turn
R7: sc into the 1st stitch, (sc 8 along R6’s chain, sc into the next stitch) x 5, ch 1, turn

Change to dark blue yarn:
R8: sc into the 1st stitch, (sc 8, sk 1) x 4, sc 9
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Now, you will sew the tail to the body. Place the tail in the back lower center of the body. It may help to wrap it around as shown below to help you center it.

Cut a long piece of green yarn. Use that to sew the bottom half of the green portion of the tail to the body. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

Hair

Using dark blue yarn:

  • slipknot into the back of R1 of the head.
  • (ch 4, starting in the 2nd chain from the hook slst 3, slst into the next stitch of R1) x 3

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Beak

Cut a strand of yellow yarn and use it to embroider a beak between the eyes. If you’re not sure how to do this, watch this video for instructions on how to embroider a beak.
